Most days, I'm managing to get my fiber up above 20 grams -- sometimes above 25. Still, I have to take laxatives to keep from getting a blockage -- a blockage put me in the hospital for 4 days in late 2022, and I don't want to repeat that problem. But thanks to some abdominal scar tissue from a very old illness, if my bowel expands at all, the scar tissue tightens, and my gut gets stopped up. The most enjoyable remedy is a Culver's Concrete -- Culver's version of a Dairy Queen Blizzard -- but better because Culver's custard is so much better than Dairy Queen. Every 10 days or so, I replace dinner with a Concrete. Of course I have to organize my day around this dinner, because it's 700+ calories. But it's yummy and it does work... It's evil, I know. Next Tuesday Culver's has a flavor I like (I'm picky), so that will be my day for a "Concrete Dinner." Breakfast and lunch will be protein and fiber... and about 500 calories altogether.

Took a young friend out for a birthday lunch today. I chose the restaurant for her benefit: She loves plantains, and she wanted to try the sandwich invented here in Chicago -- it's called a jibarito, and it's a sandwich that uses smashed and fried plantains instead of bread. I hate plantains -- but I was able to have an omelet. But something about the food made me burp for the rest of the afternoon. I just had a second of the day yogurt shake for dinner. I was hungry, but nothing really appealed to me. I'm glad my friend liked her lunch, but I'm not going back there any time soon!

As I really get back into monitoring my diet and recording my food, I'm trying to figure out how I managed to live eating under about 1400 calories per day -- and yet I know I did for long periods of time. But I just can't seem to do that anymore. I get hungry.... and it's not like I was ever a big snacker. But if I do not eat 3 meals and 2 snacks every day, I'm hungry. I look at my food diary, and I'm doing really well with a balance of protein and carbs and fiber -- so my nutrition picture is good. But here it is around 3pm on a Saturday afternoon, and I'm hungry. Going to have some oatmeal with blueberries and a little milk....

Has anyone else come across a food entry that is largely inaccurate -- and oddly so, because a few components are accurate, and the rest are inaccurate? I went to record my afternoon snack -- a prepackaged snack pack of 365 Organic Mini Peanut Butter Crackers. I found these crackers listed in the database, for 160 calories. But I was holding the package in my hand, and it clearly said 140 calories. I edited the entry and found that some values were accurate and others inaccurate. I cant figure this out... Anyway, in case anyone else is munching on these crackers, which are very satisfying and wholesome, the nutrition facts in the database are now accurate.
